Former Chemical Plant Inspector Fined RM1.8 Million For Corruption
MELAKA, June 16 (Bernama) - A former chemical plant inspector was today fined more than RM1.8 million and jailed nine years by the Sessions Court after he was found guilty of corruption and money laundering between 2006 and 2010.
Judge Ahmad Sazali Omar also ordered that the jail sentence on T Gauthaman, 45, to run concurrently meaning he will only serve four years in jail.
Gauthaman can be jailed for more than seven years should he failed to pay the fine imposed by the court.
Ahmad Sazali allowed Gauthaman's application to suspend the jail sentence and fine until the appeal in the High Court was completed.
He also raised the amount of bail on Gauthaman from RM100,000 to RM130,000 with one surety.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Heikal Ismail from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while Gauthaman was represented by counsel Azrul Zulkifli Stork.
