New Delhi, August 9
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned former Member of Parliament Pratibha Singh, wife of Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, on Tuesday in connection with alleged corruption case against her, Singh and some others.
The agency had asked Pratibha to appear before it on Tuesday.
Official sources said the agency will record her statement under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). She has sought exemption from appearing before the agency twice citing personal reasons. She then approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection from arrest until August 24, when the case will be heard next.
The ED told the high court on Monday that it did not intend to arrest Pratibha for now.
Sources had earlier said the questioning the Chief Minister’s wife was "essential" to the case after LIC agent Anand Chauhan, whom the agency arrested last month, made some "revelations".
The agency also attached assets worth about Rs 8 crore against the Chief Minister earlier this year. Singh has denied wrongdoing.
The ED had filed criminal charges for money laundering on the basis of a complaint filed by the CBI in September last year.
